Dr Manrina Rhode, regarded as one of the UK’s top cosmetic dentists, discusses her career journey.

Hi I’m Manrina Rhode, I graduated from Guys Hospital London in 2002 and have since been working in Cosmetic Dentistry in the UK. I was the first dentist for Harvey Nichols and Harrods. In this article I’ll share my career journey and training.
Biography
Dr Manrina Rhode graduated from Guys Hospital London in 2002 and has since become known as one of the top cosmetic dentists in the UK.She continued her education at the top institutions around the world, achieving a Masters level in Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry at the prestigious New York Dental Institute and Advanced Occlusion Techniques in Florida. Also Facial Aesthetics at the Bob Khanna Training institute in the UK. Her expertise in Cosmetic Dentistry led to her being appointed the first dentist for Harvey Nichols and Harrods.
Manrina runs her own course teaching Smile Makeovers using Porcelain Veneers to Dentists, called Designing Smiles.
Background and early career
When I was at school I wanted to be an actress, initially I chose maths, history and theatre studies as A levels. My head mistress called me aside and explained as I was good at both science and art, I should look into dentistry. I listened to her and completed work experience at a dental practice and actually really enjoyed it. I came back and changed my A levels to maths, chemistry and biology. I was fortunate to get my first choice of universities, Guys hospital. The interview process was fun, I guess the key is to be confident and be yourself. I danced Bhangra at my interview!
When my cosmetic dentistry career began
I graduated from Guys Hospital in 2002 and competed a years vocational training. At the end of that year a job was advertised in the BDJ for Harvey Nichols first dentist. All my friends encouraged me to apply, despite my lack of experience, having recently graduated, as it really was my dream job. I was fortunate to get the job and the company that hired me started a training plan to make me one of the top cosmetic dentists in the world.
At that time there wasn’t cosmetic dental education in the UK. I carried out my post graduate training in the USA. However these days there are great courses available to you, such as my London based veneer course, Designing Smiles.
We went on the open a clinic in Harrods, another luxury department store. We were chosen as the clinic for TV show 10 years younger and it was a rollercoaster of a fun ride. Working hard, learning lots.
I ended up moving clinics after some time to another central London based dental clinic that mainly offered cosmetic treatments. There we filmed the TV show Embarrassing Bodies.
I incorporated skin and facial aesthetics into my cosmetic dental practice and started to cosmetically treat the whole face as well as the mouth.
Instagram is a large part of my business. My dental Instagram account @drmanrinarhode is educational for dentists but also brings me cosmetic patients from around the world.
