7 Things to do in the lead up to your interview.
Research into the University. Are there any societies that interest you? Do you know any previous students who can tell you about student life?
Research specifically into the dental department. What is their teaching style? What do they have to offer that interests you?
Research topics related to dentistry. Examples include the process of tooth decay, water fluoridation, sugar tax, and anything that has recently been on the news.
Review your personal statement. Practise talking about your work experience or hobbies with family/friends.
Carefully read any communication from the university regarding where the interview is, they may offer advice on how to prepare, the dress code, and the structure of the interview.
Plan your transport and route to the interview. Aim to get there early with plenty of time in case you get lost or there is traffic.
Find something smart to wear, you want to look professional.
5 things to do the night before
Make sure all your documents are in place for tomorrow and keep them safe in a folder or poly-pocket.
Make sure your clothes are clean and ironed, and your shoes are polished.
Get to bed early, remember you will be well prepared by this point and should remain calm.
Make sure you know exactly where you are meant to be and at what time
Have a bottle of water on hand for the morning to keep your mouth lubricated, nerves can cause a dry mouth!
What to do on the day of your interview.
Have a good breakfast, you don’t want to be hungry mid interview!
Once you get to the interview you may be asked to wait for the process to begin. Take this time to have friendly conversations with fellow applicants. However, if anyone appears anxious around you, move seats. You don’t want them to influence your mood.
If you are offered to go on a tour, take this up. Be keen and listen to what your tour guide says and ask any questions you have. There may be something useful you can mention during the interview.
If you are required to wear a candidate sticker or badge, place it somewhere visible so you don’t have to fidget with it at each station.
When you go into the interview, smile and thank each interviewer at each station. Be yourself!
